Two killed, six wounded in Algeria attack

ALGIERS: Two people were killed and six wounded, including two foreigners, in an attack by armed Islamists on Wednesday on a gas field in southern Algeria, state media reported, revising an earlier toll.

Two policemen and oil four workers, including two foreigners, were among those wounded in the attack, which took place at dawn, the APS news agency said, citing local officials.

The agency gave no information on those killed.

Earlier, an Algerian member of parliament said four Japanese and one Frenchmen were kidnapped in the raid. A man from Northern Ireland who holds an Irish passport was among the hostages, the Irish foreign ministry said.
