China urges nationals to behave decently overseas

BEIJING: The Chinese tourism industry has urged its nationals travelling abroad to behave since they are consistently hogging the headlines for all the wrong reasons.

The request has been made following some incidents of Chinese tourists' bad behaviour including instances like scrawling on cultural relics, cutting in lines and speaking loudly at public places.

On behalf of the industry, the China International Travel Service (CITS) on Thursday issued the appeal for tourists and tour guides, calling for showing good manners, the China Daily reported on Friday.

In a recent incident in France, some Chinese travellers were clicked dipping their feet into the fountain water in front of the Louvre Museum, a historic monument of that country. It triggered a big debate on the Internet.

According to CITS, last year the Chinese made 83 million overseas trips. The UN World Tourism Organization has forecast that this number is expected to reach 100 million by 2020, making the country the world's largest tourist source.
